New Zealand International Convention Centre Act 2013 Repeal Bill
EXPLANATORY NOTE
GENERAL POLICY STATEMENT
This Bill repeals the New Zealand International Convention Centre Act 2013. The high profile request by SkyCity for taxpayer support raises serious doubt over the efficacy of this Act as good public policy. Based on this request and whole of life costs incumbent in the Convention Centre, this Act seemingly exposes the taxpayer and/or Auckland ratepayer to future liabilities. The public of New Zealand have made it clear that they do not wish to financially prop up a listed company, thus requiring the repeal of the Act.
